NOVEMBER NEWS: We are moving along in a really wonderful direction and the students are showing so much growth! I am so proud of their hardwork on a daily basis. This month will surely fly by and we will soon be faced with the beautiful yet busy holiday season.  Reading- We will be finishing our Novel Study of FISH IN A TREE. It has been great reading this book with the class. My hope is that the students learned that being different should be celebrated and that we as children of God should celebrate the beautiful gift each of us possess.  Each student has sign up for Readtheory.org - They may log in at anytime while at home to practice their reading comprehension skills. We will be logging on once a week in class. Reading Journal- Your child should be reading a novel of their choice each night and completing their Reading Journal as part of their homework routine. While I do not check this daily, I will be doing check-ins with each child to discuss what they are re

The fifth grade is "Falling  into a good routine" Just as the leaves on the trees are changing and adding beauty to our days, as the days go on your child is adding their special color to our class . I am so excited to see so many of the students reading for pleasure and enjoy hearing about all of the wonderful books they are choosing.  As a class we are reading a beautiful book entitled Fish in a Tree.  The students have shared times when they've felt like a fish in a tree and have shared many of their Silver Dollar Days and Wooden Nickel Days.  We will continue to work on organizational skills, the better prepared a child is the more confident and more successful your child will be in class. Writing We are in the process of writing our Personal Narratives The students are excited to share some of their most memorable stories with the class. Would you like to join the dollar word club? WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL! IT's been a very busy first week of school and extremely fun getting to know your child. I am looking forward to a very fulfilling school year. ELA UPDATES: Last week in review: The students learned about the importance of having a positive digital footprint and to use technology in a responsible, respectful and positive way. The students created this Be your Best Digital Self poster/puzzle during class. JOB WELL DONE! We're off and reading. We had our first visit to the library where the students selected some wonderful books to read during our quiet reading time. The students will be keeping a log of the wonderful books they are reading and will be giving book commercials during the week so others may enjoy the same book. Reading Olympic forms can be found on line - Reading Olympics is a wonderful/fun way to get your child motivated to read. The competition is a fun-filled evening filled with excitement and lots of enthusiasm.
