November News

NOVEMBER NEWS:

We are moving along in a really wonderful direction and the students are showing so much growth! I am so proud of their hardwork on a daily basis.

This month will surely fly by and we will soon be faced with the beautiful yet busy holiday season.

Reading- We will be finishing our Novel Study of FISH IN A TREE. It has been great reading this book with the class. My hope is that the students learned that being different should be celebrated and that we as children of God should celebrate the beautiful gift each of us possess.

Each student has sign up for Readtheory.org - They may log in at anytime while at home to practice their reading comprehension skills. We will be logging on once a week in class.
Reading Journal- Your child should be reading a novel of their choice each night and completing their Reading Journal as part of their homework routine. While I do not check this daily, I will be doing check-ins with each child to discuss what they are reading.

Our next novel will be WISH TREE by Katherine Applegate
I am asking each student to purchase a copy by January 2,2020.  If your child would like to purchase it using a device they may. This is a great story told from the perspective of an Old Red Oak Tree.

Writing:
The students will continue building their writing skills through journal writing as well as formal writing. Our next topic is Persuassive/Opinion writing. The students will be applying to become one of Santa's elves and will have to give good reasons why Santa should hire them.

Religion:

We are finishing our unit on Baptism and will be moving onto the sacrament of Holy Eucharist.  Each child will be completing a small gratitude project to help them realize all of the wonderful things they are grateful for.

Upcoming tets:

Vocabulary test - November 15

Religion - November 19 (Baptism)

Fun October Happenings:

Students brought out their artistic side in Religion- After writing a research on a saint they used clay to create a model of that saint.

One cold, dark Halloween night after mom turned out the light....students share creative writing in the perfectly spooky setting although most of the stories were very humorous.
                                                                Happy Halloween

Fun time reviewing vocabulary using headbands
Yes, I've been blessed to teach all of the McKernans!
