STOP THE PRESSES!

The 5th graders have just completed Literature Circle and have done a wonderful job working together discussing the books they chose to read. It is like music to an ELA teacher hearing the students have wonderful discussions about plot, characters, problems encountered and solved.
Literature Circle is a life long skill for what  we do as adults...we discuss books, articles and websites with each other. What an important skill for our children to learn the art of Discussion and Listening.

What a fun time we had discovering TALL TALES!
After reading several examples and having a lot of fun working with hyperbole, the students were off and writing.
They have done a terrific job becoming the author of their own Tale.
We will be creating a class book and publish their stories so they will be around SKS for the next thousand years.
Be on the look out for an order form....might be a nice 5th grade memory for your child!

We have been working on reading comprehension in preparation of Terra Nova testing.
This week we focused on International Women's week.
The stories we read opened the eyes of our students  to the many contributions women have made to our world.
