March Madness in the 5th grade!

March Madness in the 5th grade.....The Students have enjoyed not only the excitement of the March Madness basketball games but have implemented their spelling words into posters, stories and projects celebrating their favorite teams! And while most of our brackets are done, the students truly Scored while taking their March Madness Bracket Spelling Test!

POETRY MONTH

The 5th graders became wonderful poets during the month of March.
The used rhyme scheme, rhythm and practiced lots of syllabication to create several types of poetry including couplets, haiku, free verse, and a color poem.
A few of our students will be sharing what they wrote on May 1 during Cultural Arts night.
The students read and analyzed poetry by Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky.
I didn't have to nag,
In fact, as the teacher I must take this time to brag.
The students passed their poetry test,
and their poems were absolutely the best!
Couplets blew in with the beginning of Spring!

NON-FICTION Book of the Month

Who inspires you to make Positive change?
The 5th graders will be reading Real Kids, Real Stories, Real Change
Goal: Become inspired to do something great big or small to make a positive impact in the world or on another human being!
The short stories are about kids who after overcoming some challenges put their best foot forward to help others.

Reading Olympics!
Shout out to our 5th grade Reading Olympiads!
The 4th and 5th graders competed in the Reading Olympics on April 2
Thank you to Mrs.D'Agostino and Mrs.Stefan for preparing our students and motivating them to LOVE to READ!!

As quickly as Spring has sprung, the end of the school year is inching its way in!

Things to look forward to:
Fractured Fairy Tales
Book party to celebrate the Tall Tales the students published
More reading, writing and discovering the amazing things words add to our lives!

RELIGION

During the season of Lent the 5th graders are becoming closer to the Stations of the Cross
They worked diligently creating very thoughtful power point presentations based on the Stations. They were able to share their work with many of the other classes during the week of Terra Nova.
Ask your child to show you their wonderful work!
