January/February 5th grade fun!

I am  discovering many great TALENTS in the 5th grade as our school year
                                                     quickly moves  on.
The students have been engaged in many fun and educational activities.

RELIGION UPDATE:

We have completed our instruction on the sacrament of Confirmation and have moved on to Holy Eucharist. We did research on the famous painting by DiVinnci and the students created their own masterpieces.
We will soon be entering the liturgical season of Lent. During this time we will focus on the events that lead up to Easter. The students will be keeping a prayer journal to help them develop their relationship with Jesus.

Writing fun:

We have learned prepositions and prefixes, written songs and poetry. This is learning at its best!

We are in the process of completing a fun writing assignment using direct quotations. The students
have  become stuck in a snow globe or sand globe and have gone on great adventures. Some look to escape, while others have had such a great adventure they are remaining in the snow/sand globe.

Novel study:
We have been reading Wishtree by Katherine Applegate and have been enjoying time with Red, a beautiful Oak tree who has seen many things during his 234 years, his friend Bongo a funny crow, many animals who make their home in Red ,and  Stephen and Samar who are learning about friendship.

New to 5th grade ELA: Some of our ambitious 5th graders have created a wonderful monthly Newsletter, Scoop, all about the fun happenings. I am so proud of the collaboration of our very hard working and creative students.
